Dive and Desert

April 26, 2019 - May 1, 2019

There is no better way to celebrate the arrival of spring than by completely immersing yourself in nature above and below water. Join us for a unique diving and desert experience where we start at Wadi Lahami and explore the unique coral reefs of the Fury Shoal. On the fourth night our group will move from Wadi Lahami to Wadi El Gemal National Park where we will spend the afternoon exploring the Eastern Deserts unique mangroves, Roman ruins, and beautiful desert scenery. At night we will set up camp, enjoy a traditional Bedouin meal, and finishing the night up with a campfire and breathtaking views of the Milky Way. Our trip will finish up at Marsa Shagra, for two final days of diving where we will explore the northern dive sites of Marsa Alam.

Wadi Lahami

Wadi Lahami is an isolated village near the southern border of Egypt. Due to its location, Lahami provides the perfect opportunity to explore the pristine Fury Shoal dive sites. This huge reef complex is composed of large formations of hard corals that create unique reef formations, swim throughs, and attract a wide variety of marine life. One of the unique aspects of Lahami is the large mangrove north of the village, which is beautiful for bird watching.

Popular dive site locations in Fury Shoal are:

  • Abu Galaway Soraya–Wreck and beautiful reef
  • Malahi–Malahi means playground in Arabic
  • Sha’ab Claudia–known for amazing reef formations, providing multiple swim throughs
  • Sha’ab Staya–natural lagoon home to a large pod of spinner dolphins
  • Sha’ab Maksour–1.5km long with steeps walls similar to Elphinstone
Wadi El Gemal

Wadi El Gemal National Park in the Eastern Desert is one of the most natural areas of Egypt, filled with mangroves, pristine coral reefs, acacia trees, and antiques from the Roman age. It is home to a wide variety of animals including dolphins, dugongs, wildcats, foxes, gazelles, and a wide variety of birds. It’s remote location provides an unmatched nighttime star gazing experience.
